Participation Requirements

The participation requirement applies to the financial year and it is the responsibility of the individual licence holder to inform the Branch of his/her actual participation by the end of July each year. Failure to do so may result in the member’s details being forwarded to Weapons Licencing for their action.

  • Class C – a centre-fire pistol with a calibre of more than .38 inch but not more than .45 inch; and
  • Class D – a rimfire pistol.

One class of handgun:

  • I.e. Your absolute minimum would be six (6) competitions.

Two classes of handguns:

Class C (High Calibre Handgun)

The only exception to the above is if you have two or more classes of hangun and one of these classes is a class c (high calibre handgun), then you must ensure that you have a minimum of four (4) competitions for that class as well as meeting the overall requirements for the number of classes held

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS – NO HANDGUN CLASSES REGISTERED TO LICENCE

Licensees that have NO Category H firearms registered to their licence are not subject to participation conditions but are required to maintain financial membership of an approved Queensland pistol club in order to support the genuine reason for their concealable
firearms licence.

PARTICIPATION RATE FOR LESS THAN 12 MONTHS

A licensee who is the registered owner of a category H firearm in a particular class for less than 12 months will be required to do a proportionate number of participation shoots based on the number of whole months that the firearm is owned for the financial year.

The participation rate is proportionally calculated based on one whole calendar month for that financial year, after rounding down to the nearest whole number of competitions.

Example:

If the licensee has 1 class of category H firearm for 5 months during a particular financial year, the licensee must participate in 2 club-organised shoots to satisfy the participation condition for that firearm in that financial year.

Please Note:

  • Only one attendance per day, regardless of class, may be counted for participation requirements.
  • The participation requirements only apply to the class or classes of handgun(s) that you own and not the number of handguns in each class.
  • Participation record cards must be completed each and every time you attend the range to shoot. This includes competition, practice and testing.
